#InternationalWomensDay on 8th March is a global day to celebrate women's achievements, raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender parity. This year’s theme is how collectively we can ‘Embrace Equality’ and we are being encouraged to hug ourselves and strike the #EmbraceEquality pose and share on social media to show support. #IWD2023
This leads me on nicely to our guests today from Soroptimist International Guernsey who is hosting a special breakfast on International Women’s Day with motivational speaker and rugby player, Tanya Scholtz. Welcome Kate Raleigh and Sue Robilliard, thanks for talking with me today.
Kate, you are the President of Soroptimist Guernsey, can you tell us more about it?
Sue, you are a member of the committee that is working hard at organising this special event here in Guernsey on Wednesday 8th March, can you tell me about it?
If anyone locally wishes to attend this event, please get in touch with Sue by email on s.robilliard@cwgsy.net or visit the link in my notes. Tickets are £10 and the deadline for bookings is Friday 17th February.
Next up is……….
#RedNoseDay which is back on 17th March for Comic Relief. They have a number of static and flash banners all designed for people to place on their websites, blogs and social media pages to show support. A ‘digital red nose’ facility allows you to upload an image and have a red nose automatically inserted on to it. If your workplace wants to take part you can register for your free fundraising pack at www.comicrelief.com/rednoseday.
Next up is……….
#MothersDay on 19th March celebrating the mother, or mother figure, and the influence of mothers in society. This is perfect if you sell cards, gifts, or experiences or are in the hospitality industry. If you are stuck for ideas you could run a Mother's Day competition (abiding by the social media platform’s competition rules), share a Mother's Day gift guide, highlight your mother, highlight the mother’s in your company, share a Mother's Day quote, get personal about motherhood for you or highlight a Mother's Day event.
Next up is……….
#InternationalDayofHappiness on 20th March calling for happiness to be given greater priority. Why not take time out to do something that makes you happy whether that is getting outside in nature, speaking to a friend, having a boogie or giving and spreading happiness to others. You could also share things that make you happy on social media.
Next up is……….
#WorldPoetryDay on 21st March helping promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry and how it can capture the creative spirit of humankind. To start celebrating World Poetry Day, there are many things you can do including:
- Attending a poetry reading with family, friends or by yourself, you are bound to meet lots of other poetry lovers
- Sharing what you have learnt from the poetry reading with people of all ages
- Looking up poetry recommendations and add them to your reading list
- Writing your own poetry and sharing it on social media
That’s nearly it, but I’ve just got one more awareness day to finish with……….
#EarthHour on 25th March encourages everyone around the world to help #ShapeOurFuture by signing up to switch off your lights at 8.30pm your local time and join a community of millions supporting stronger action on climate change. Maybe you’d like to be a local champion and organise an event to bring your community together for the hour, whether that be virtually or physically. More information about EarthHour and how to register your event can be found at www.earthhour.org.
